Dear Woman

Hello Friends!  Welcome to day 2!  Well, I must tell you, because we only have four days to work with this week we have had to sprint forward in the life of John.  Yesterday when we met John he was just meeting Jesus and today he is watching Jesus die.  If you have some extra time and want to know a little more about John click here to check out web page with some good information.

When I was in the Holy Land we went to the two places that they think could have been the place where Jesus was crucified and put into the ground.  One, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre is quite grand.  There are many chapels and much art.  You of course can see the spot they say Jesus was crucified and where they say the body was laid on the ground when they took him off the cross, it is right by the front door (you almost walk by it not knowing what it is).  They you can stand in a long line and see the empty tomb.  The other site, the Garden Tomb, is not so grand, but seems more like the place.  You can take communion there and see the spot, above a parking lot, that they say is the Place of the Skull.  You can also stand in a long line and go inside the empty tomb.  I don’t know if either one of these places is the actual place where Jesus was crucified and put in the ground.  I actually didn’t stand in the line to look at the empty tomb, because, He isn’t there.  He has Risen!  Jesus is not in a tomb, Jesus is Alive.  However, let us do take a moment, after you read todays chapter, to talk about Jesus’ words to John on the cross.

Read: John 19

Questions to Consider:

  1. What do you think John was thinking when Jesus said “Dear woman, here is your son.” And to him, “Here is your mother.”?
  2. Have you ever felt like Jesus has given you a big responsibility?
  3. What must John had been thinking on Easter morning as he looked into the tomb?

Prayer: Gracious God, thank you for this day and all the possibilities that it represents. Allow this day to be a day when we can show up for you. We know there is something we can do for you today, help us to know what that thing or what those things are…speak to us! Amen.

Blessings,
