Word of the Week: Love
My mother has always been strong in her faith. However, there was a time in her life when she had difficultly believing in God’s promise to never leave her nor forsake her.
She was the caregiver for her husband, Smitty, who suffered from Alzheimer’s. After caring for him for two years, Mom was physically, mentally and emotionally worn out.
Just when it seemed things could not get any worse, she broke her arm. Mom was hardly able to help Smitty bathe, dress or even get him up out of a chair with two good arms. How in the world was she going to manage with one arm? She was an emotional mess. We prayed for a solution, knowing that God could make a way where there seemed to be no way.
The next day we called Smitty’s doctor and he promised to find a solution to the problem. The doctor’s solution was to find a reason to put Smitty into a nursing home until Mom’s arm healed.
God had answered our prayers.
In the first chapter of Luke we are told of someone else who had difficulty believing God, even though he received God’s promise from the angel, Gabriel. The good news was that he was to become a father of a son. And not just any son, but one who would be filled with the Holy Spirit from birth.
His wife was barren, and they were old. How could they have a son who was great in the sight of the Lord and filled with the Holy Spirit? How could he believe in God’s promise?
God, once again, made a way where there seemed to be no way!
Daily Prayer: Abba Father, thank you for being the God of all things and all circumstances. Thank you for making a way where there seems to be no way. In Jesus’ name we pray.
