Word of the Week: Love

Several years ago, I was given a CD, “Home for Christmas” by Amy Grant. I always look forward to the Advent season as I pull the CD from the rack and prepare for the season. I have especially come to adore one of the songs on the CD…” Breath of Heaven”. I enjoy playing it over and over. You see I was a pregnant mother during the month of December several years ago, so the words speak to me. This is a song about Mary’s love and wonder about her unborn child.

The words go: “I have traveled many moonless nights, cold and weary with a babe inside and I wonder what I’ve done. Holy Father you have come and chosen me now to carry your son. Am waiting in a silent prayer, I am frightened by the load I bear. In a world as cold as stone must I walk this path alone. Be with me now. Do you wonder as you watch my face if a wiser one should have had my place? But I offer all I am for the mercy of your plan. Help me be strong. Help me be, Help me.”

The Chorus: “Breath of heaven. Hold me together. Be forever near me, Breath of Heaven. Breath of Heaven, Lighten my Darkness. Pour over me your Holiness. For you are Holy, Breath of Heaven.”

As I reflect on how Mary must have felt during her pregnancy with Jesus, I know she must have felt very alone and frightened with the future before her. Sure, she knew she was chosen, but the love and faith it took to carry out God’s plan must have been very bonding and mysterious for both Mary and Joseph.

Daily Prayer: Breath of Heaven, hold me together. I offer all I am for the mercy of your plan. Help me be strong. Help me be, Help me.

Discussion/Reflection Questions:

  1. What are some of your favorite Christmas songs?
  2. How does music speak to you about the love that God has for us?
