Witness: Sandy Eyler

Scripture: Luke 1:26-56

Weekly Theme: Joy

We’re getting a new baby this year!  In fact, by the time you are reading this, our fifth grandchild will be born.  I’ll once again get to hold a tiny baby and marvel at the miracle of birth.  My heart will swell as I hold this precious new one, gaze into his perfect face and feel his tiny fingers wrap around my own.  What a gift grandchildren are!

My grandsons live in Oklahoma.  They are good boys, kind, with creative and inquisitive minds.  They like to tell me about the books they are reading and things they’re learning about.  And I listen.  This Fall, I got to visit.  We had beautiful weather with bright blue skies and coolish temperatures.  While there we went to a park and climbed a large hill.  I watched as they laughed, running up and down the hill.  Their curiosity and energy abound, and it is contagious.

The girls are younger.  They love visiting the Villages.  They arrive with beautiful smiles and lift their arms to be picked up for hugs and kisses.  Their faces nestle in my neck.  Then we play.  We like to blow bubbles and do chalk on the front driveway.  “Look, Grammy, the bubbles have rainbow colors,” they squeal as they chase the bubbles to pop them.  Then we take the golf cart to ride to Brownwood for donuts with sprinkles.  I enjoy the simple pleasures of life through their eyes.

And what satisfaction I get watching my daughter and son parent.  My daughter is so patient and kind.  My son is such a hands-on dad.  He definitely will be his daughters’ first love.  I’m so proud as I watch them raise their own families with so much joy!

Daily Prayer:  Dear Lord, thank you for family.  Thank you for baby Jesus, Mary, and Joseph.  I am truly blessed with God’s amazing gift of family.  A family that is growing and unveiling more joy than I thought my heart could hold.  Thank you for being such a kind, loving Father.  Amen
