Scripture: Isaiah 9:6
Accepting the request to create a devotional generally is not a difficult assignment for me. Yes, it requires lots of prayer, meditation, a ream of paper, or at least sore fingers from constant backspace deleting and God’s last second, before the deadline, alterations. Until this one. Nothing. Nada. Zilch.
Jesus, Help me!
I didn’t birth a son. I have terrific sons-in-love and wonderful grandsons.
But… to construct this devotional, I first needed to play inspirational Christmas music to get the “juices flowing.” Of course, my first thoughts were from the inspirational verses from Handel’s Messiah. Then I remembered a cassette tape; yep, you read that right, a cassette with beautiful music. The narration from the voice of Max Lucado explains the story of God sending His only Son to the people of the world as an expression of His abounding love for each and every one of us.
Aha, I found it! I don’t know what sequence this devotion will fall, but if the spirit of Christmas has not yet infiltrated your heart, try another resource. I assure you, God is already there to meet you.
Daily Prayer: Lord, give me/us your grace to seek, listen, pray, meditate, sing, move or serve in such a way as to find the Child who is born and given to me/us. AMEN
Reflection Questions:
- Have I opened my heart to the Child in Isaiah 9:6?
- What means can I use to open my heart?
- Who will I share this story with?
