Jingle: An Advent Devotional – Tuesday, November 6, 2022

Writer’s Name:  Rick Elliott

Writer’s Ministry: Lake Deaton Pianist

Scripture:  Zechariah 9:9-10

Rejoice and Shout Zion – Jesus comes to you righteous and victorious, riding on a lowly donkey.  He will bring peace where there is war.  Not only to you but to the ends of the earth.

I usually arise each morning around 6 am and often begin reading the news to learn of the events that have made headlines and the impact thereof.  I typically skim over the headlines and then land on an article of significance relating to people’s lives everywhere.

The weather always interests me first, as I can better understand how I might spend the day and accomplish my goals.  After that, I may review the stock market to see how investments are trending.  There are usually a few political ads to absorb.  Always a grand sports update.

Lately, there has been much less about Covid, which is a welcome change.  There’s a lot about the war between Ukraine and the Soviet Union.

However, the best part of my day is when I listen to a song or review a new song and experience the nudge of God’s spirit in the songwriter’s work and am captivated by the presence of Jesus and His power and presence.

Tears often fill my eyes as I contemplate the goodness of a God who is so awesome, holy, selfless, and faithful.  A righteous God who humbly came into the world and humbled himself to die on the cross so that we might have life.

I am grateful that as a 12-year-old, an interim pastor shared God’s offer of salvation to me and I kneeled and prayed to a God, acknowledging His gift and asking Him to forgive me of my sins and come into my life.  I will never forget the warmth and assurance that I felt that God of the ages had a plan for me.

Since that time, I have longed for His presence more with each passing day.  What a Savior!!!

Daily Prayer:  Lord, I seek your presence in my life each day so that I may glorify you with my thoughts, words, and actions.  Make me a vessel, make me an offering, make me whatever you want me to be.

Discussion/Reflection Questions:

1.  What memories do you have of first encountering the King of the Ages?

2.  How do you seek Him out in your everyday life?

3.  Is what He did for you worth sharing with others?
