Scripture: Luke 2:13-14
Imagine a choir of little children, dressed in costumes from around the world, singing beautiful Christmas songs from every country imaginable. I was four years old when I participated in our church children’s choir performance, such as this, at Trinity Methodist Church in Alexandria, Virginia! I will never forget that program for it is emblazoned in my memory as one of the happiest Advent experiences in my life! It opened a world of Christian music performances that touched my heart!
As a child, music was always a part of my family’s life – my five sisters and I had a mama with a beautiful voice, who trained us to sing in harmony as a family – at home, in the car on trips, in church, in school, and our community. I was so excited to learn new songs and learn to play piano, guitar, and organ.
The scripture today reads that,
“…a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.’ “
My vision of that scripture has always been an enormous heavenly angel choir in white, singing the most beautiful song that could be heard, while the whole sky was lit with a light so bright that it was almost blinding. What awe the shepherds must have felt to behold such a sight! And yet to come, their greater awe in meeting the Christ Child lying in the manger! I cannot imagine how that would have felt, can you?
God’s love – through a tiny baby boy who came to save the world – is the greatest gift given to us from the heavenly father. When you hear uplifting Christmas music, do you feel that love? I Do!
As you experience Advent this year, remember the “Reason For The Season” and reflect on God’s love for each of us.
Daily Prayer: “Dear Heavenly Father, Grant us peace during this Advent season and help us to hear your music in all areas of our lives. Help that music to uplift us and remind us of your love.” Amen
1. Listen to Christmas Hymns today and reflect on God’s love.
2. How can you share God’s love through music today?
3. Pray for those who are lost and ask for God’s guidance in how you can reach out to others during this Advent season.
