Psalm 5:11-12
11 But let all who take refuge in you rejoice;
let them sing joyful praises forever.
Spread your protection over them,
that all who love your name may be filled with joy.
12 For you bless the godly, O Lord;
you surround them with your shield of love.
For you, it is Monday; for me, it is Sunday. My weekend is ending, and it is time to start thinking about the new week. Weekends are meant to be a time of rest and refreshment. However, my weekends are filled with house guests. Each weekend a crew of men shows up to keep on building my house. I am thankful for these men and their work, but goodness, they can be messy. This could be something that irks me; that just makes me not a nice person. But I have not had that experience…yet.
Do you have people who irk you? Who get under your skin? These people are hard to love, but we are called to love them just like everyone else. But how do you do that? I love the Psalm for today. It says that we take refuge in God, that God will protect us, and that we will be filled with joy. These are the things I want in my life. We take refuge in God when we go to God with everything, the little things (a house full of messy men) and the big things. Leaning into God’s love allows us to be joyful even when it seems there is nothing to be joyful about.
This week I encourage you to lean into God. Take refuge with God. Let God’s protection spread over you. I believe if you do these things, if it is a good week or a bad week, you will have joy.
Questions:
- Do you have someone in your life that you need to forgive?
- What would it look like for you to love those who irk you?
Blessings,
Kristyne
