Summer of Psalms – Day 3
Read Psalm 3
Many of the Psalms are written by David in response to events in his life. Today’s Psalm is in response to Absalom’s rebellion. You can find this story in 2 Samuel 15. If you read this story, you can see that Absalom was working to undermine David. Have you ever felt like someone or even the world is working to undermine you? Some days, it seems like everything runs smoothly. Then there are those days when you get up, and the day goes every way but smoothly. Often, when we have those types of days, we let the things happening around us guide our mood. This is not helpful.
At the end of the school year, we had the opportunity to read The Seven Practices of Highly Effective People. My group assignment was to report on the first practice; the practice of being proactive. Being proactive is better and different from being reactive. When you are reactive, you let your environment and the things currently affecting you guide your steps. However, when you are proactive, you choose NOT to let the circumstances around you be your guide. When you are proactive, you choose what guides you, and as Christians, we should always let the Lord be our guide.
In today’s Psalm, David chooses to be proactive instead of reactive. To do this, we must take a moment to STOP and PRAY before acting. Today, before acting, take the opportunity to STOP and PRAY and then move forward, knowing that Jesus goes with you.
