Summer Study – Day 10

June 14, 2024

Read Psalms 17 and 18

God is bigger than we can even begin to understand.  No matter how hard we try, we cannot imagine just how powerful, how awesome, and how great God is.  However, we should still try.  I love all the different ways that God is described in the Bible.  In today’s two psalms, God is like a mighty bird or winged creature that protects us with his wings and God is like a rock.  When I think about the properties of a wing and a rock, they are very different.  A wing is soft, safe, and a place of protection.  A rock is hard, powerful, and strong.  In our sermon series, we have been saying that the Holy Spirit is like a wild goose: wild and unable to be tamed, unpredictable.

I love all these images because depending on what is happening in our lives, we might need a different property from God.  Sometimes, we need God to comfort us and hold us safely in a place of protection.  Sometimes, we need God to be powerful and firm on our behalf.  Other times, we need God to be like the wild goose, challenging us to step out of our cages and go on an adventure.

Reflect on the aspect of God’s nature that resonates with you in your current life situation. Can you recall other descriptions of God from the Bible? Compile a list and ponder over which ones you find most appealing and why.

Blessings: Kristyne

PS…I also added one of my current favorite songs. Jesus is our firm foundation!
