Last weekend on day 34/35 from Jim being gone, I had a tough weekend. I had been feeling lonely as Jim was out of the country, my daughter was out of the country with Jim, and my brother was out of the country on a mission’s trip to Costa Rica. The three people I talk to the most were really out of pocket. I sat around the house, feeling far away from everyone. I knew many have said, call me if you need me, but I was lamenting not having those three people accessible when I needed them. I began to prepare my sermon and I received a text about a church member passing away, and later a phone call about a parishioner’s grandchild who had been very sick also had passed away. I could not help it, tears started falling from my eyes and I bluntly asked God for some good news! I just cried out, “Lord God, I need some good news.” It wasn’t instantly but a little later I heard of a small group who had invited another couple in our church to join their small group and that couple accepted the invitation. That really warmed my heart. At Lake Deaton UMC we encourage people to live out their faith in small groups. We say again and again, if you are not in a small group, find some people you like and begin a small group. It is in community that we can walk through the lonely difficult times in our lives. Reading Psalm 86, reminds me again, that we can cry out to God with our needs. I can join the psalmist in saying, “I will call to you whenever I’m in trouble, and you will answer me.” David had the confidence that God would respond. Let us today, also walk in that confidence, God is with us. Amen!
Psalm 86
Prayer: Lord God, today I thank you that you have not left us nor forgotten us. It is out of the abundance of your kindness that your mercies are new every morning. We thank you for our family, our friends, our pets. Teach us to count our blessings and in gratitude share out of our abundance with others. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
Blessings,
Loida
