Well, Merry Christmas, everyone. I love many things about Christmas, but one of my favorite things is the music. It takes all the self-control I have in me not to listen to Christmas music before the end of Thanksgiving. However, it is good to have to wait. It’s good to have a little self-control. The waiting makes the music more precious and special. We only get to have it at a certain time of the year. Because it is not part of our routine, we listen more closely to the words. We savor the words. We let the words work in our hearts and minds.
Sing a new song to the Lord,
for he has done wonderful deeds.
So What: I encourage you to spend some time comparing Psalm 98 with Joy to the World. What similarities do you see? This exercise will engage your mind and heart, and who knows, it might even inspire you to write some poetry if you’re feeling adventurous.
Joy to the world; the Lord is come;
Let earth receive her king:
Let every heart prepare Him room,
And Heaven and nature sing,
And Heaven and nature sing,
And Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing.
Joy to the earth, the Savior reigns;
Let men their songs employ;
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy.
No more let sins and sorrows grow,
Nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found,
Far as the curse is found,
Far as, far as, the curse is found.
He rules the world with truth and grace,
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders, wonders, of His love.
Blessings: Kristyne
