Day 34 – Psalm 119 (Longest Psalm)

Psalm 119

Psalm 119, the longest chapter, is filled with encouragement to dive in and follow God’s word. In fact, several synonyms are used to refer to God’s word: commands, law, decrees, precepts, and statues. All of these relate to the written Torah. Many of us think of the Torah as a book of laws, yet the word Torah means “instruction,” or “teaching.” Some of us are now retired, some of us are still working, but you can probably remember how delightful it is to work with people who have a “learning” attitude in life. People who are lifelong learners, those who never say, “I have learned everything I need to know.” I really think that Psalm 119 challenges us to develop that holy curiosity in diving into the word of God. The fact that you are doing this Psalm study shows that you are seeking to learn and seeking to grow. If we can cultivate that, especially in our relationship with God, then we will be following God’s commands. Today, think of scriptures that have been a lamp unto your feet and/or a light unto your path in the past. I am often amazed how many times scripture has come to my rescue. So, yes, join the revolution of digging into God’s word. It will bring great reward in your life.

Prayer: Lord God, today I thank you for your word. For the many times it has challenged me, for the times it has comforted me, for the times it has brought me joy. Guide me Lord, truly let your word be a lamp unto my path today. Amen!

Blessings,

Loida

This was a beautiful Psalm for us to read today. It had so much meaning for modern people. We should try to follow God’s law always. And the verse that you chose was a good one. Thank you. Love and blessings, Gayle

    1. You are right Gayle and what a joy that we have access to a Bible in our hands.
