Scripture: Revelation 1:8: “I am the Alpha and the Omega—the beginning and the end,”[a] says the Lord God. “I am the one who is, who always was, and who is still to come—the Almighty One.”

I look at my milkweed every morning and see caterpillars who are making their way to the top of the cage to turn into a chrysalis. I wonder if they think what is happening. Their bodies are undergoing a huge change and when they shed their skin a bright green chrysalis appears. There are a lot of sudden changes they face when turning into a chrysalis. No more legs, no more eating, and much more, but then they must wait for the unknown. They trust that they are secure and safe by the way they were designed. Yet do they think this is the end? Like some of us when change happens. It is easy to forget that our God is always there and there is nothing that God doesn’t know or understand. When the world is in upheaval and seems like it is going crazy or your world is all shook up. God sees and knows, God is present in all things. He declares it when He says He is the Omega. Those are comforting words for us. There will come a day when no more tears will flow or worry fill our hearts.

We know that in every one of our endings in life. Every change in our life God is there. When we lose someone, or we lose a job, move to a new place, or our health changes, God is there comforting us. God knows our names, the hairs on our head; God tells us to lean on Him. There will never be a time when we are left alone. He reminds us that He was, is and always will be. We can let go and trust. Sometimes like the caterpillar we think this is it, I can’t go on. We don’t like the waiting, the hard times, the hard decisions, yet when we trust and lean on God we find we become something beautiful like the caterpillar who breaks free of the chrysalis and is a beautiful butterfly. When we break free and remember God’s strength and love we can spread love and joy in confidence, because we know our Lord is present in our lives.
Prayer: Lord, let us lean on you in our hard times and strengthen us to never forget that we are not alone. Amen.
Action: Let us share God’s love with someone going through a hard time. Let them know they are not alone.
